Chelsea Thorpe x Olivia Hayward — Lace Dress Sewing Pattern

A collaboration between Chelsea Thorpe and Olivia Hayward

A romantic dress sewing pattern with a softly draped silhouette, adjustable tie straps and a full gathered skirt, designed to beautifully showcase lace and decorative fabric edges.

The dress features a relaxed fit through the body, adjustable tie straps and a full skirt with hidden side-seam pockets. Layers of soft tulle underneath add volume and movement, while the hem can be positioned along a scalloped lace edge for a beautiful natural finish.

The pattern includes instructions for a fully lined lace version, as well as guidance for working with more opaque fabrics where an additional lining may not be required.

Designed for the intermediate sewist, this pattern is a lovely project for those wanting to build their skills while creating a garment with considered construction and special finishing details.

Pattern Details

  • Skill level: Intermediate

  • A0 printing format for patttern

  • Sizes: XS–XXXL

  • Relaxed fit through the body

  • Full gathered skirt

  • Hidden side-seam pockets

  • Soft tulle underskirt for added volume

Suggested Fabrics

For the lace version, we recommend cotton lace, embroidered cotton, broderie anglaise or similar lightweight woven fabrics with a decorative or scalloped edge.

For the lining, choose a lightweight cotton lawn, voile or similar breathable woven fabric. Soft dressmaking tulle is used beneath the skirt to create volume and movement.

The pattern can also be made in an opaque woven fabric such as linen, cotton lawn or lightweight cotton, creating a simpler version of the dress without the transparency of lace.

A playful and romantic dress to make your own — for celebrations, summer evenings, dinners, parties, or simply because you feel like wearing something beautiful.
