9-Week Sewing Series

Foundations, Garment Construction & Your Own Bodice Block

Beginning in the first week of February 2026. This 9-week sewing series offers a gentle yet comprehensive journey into sewing, garment construction, and introductory pattern drafting. Held every Thursday from 10.00am–12.30pm, this course is perfect for beginners wanting solid foundations, as well as improvers ready to deepen their skills.

Across the series, you will:

Weeks 1–2: Sewing Foundations

• Learn the essentials — seams, pressing, hems, darts, facings, seam finishes
• Gain confidence using your sewing machine and tools
• Complete simple practice pieces to develop good technique and accuracy

Weeks 3–6: Skill Building & Garment Construction

• Explore new techniques: zips, pockets, gathers, bias binding, fit adjustments
• Begin constructing 1–2 garments of your choice with step-by-step guidance
• Understand commercial patterns, cutting layouts, grainlines, and fabric handling

Weeks 7–9: Pattern Drafting & Your Own Bodice Block

• Draft your own bodice block using your personal measurements
• Learn basic patternmaking: adding ease, manipulating darts, simple design variations
• Apply your drafting skills to refine and personalise your garment projects
• Finish your pieces with clean, professional techniques

By the end of the 9 weeks, you will feel confident in your sewing practice, have completed garments you’ve created yourself, and leave with your own custom bodice block,  a foundational tool for future sewing projects.
